FARMER’S MARKET

Saltillo had enjoyed a small produce stand for several years when Mr. Jay Swindle decided to close down. He was a huge encourager and had a great deal to do with us deciding to move his produce stand to our location. Many hours were spent traveling to regional markets and meeting with local growers discussing the different aspects that were needed to make our Farmers Market a success. We try to keep the freshest produce year round, especially during our growing season.

We have local farmers who bring in some of the freshest, best quality produce that can be found. Fresh squash, corn, okra, tomatoes and cucumbers are just a few of the items we receive daily from some of the area’s finest growers. Chilton County, AL is known worldwide for its peach orchards. We have deliveries from there several times per week during the peak season, don’t miss out on the peaches at Smith’s.

This past spring, we added to our market by installing a hand dipped ice cream department as well as gourmet coffee from “My Brothers Cup”. We love to see people walking around the nursery with a hand dipped ice cream cone or a cup of coffee. Also, the people of our area spoke and we listened, farm fresh milk from Brown’s Dairy as well as local fresh eggs are now delivered on a regular base.

During the fall of the year we have one of the largest selections of pumpkins and gourds in the area. Several thousand pumpkins fill our yard as well as many varieties of mums that we grow here at the nursery. Fall is also when the peanuts start rolling in and we keep the boiler going with fresh hot boiled peanuts every day. Nothing says fall like picking out pumpkins and nibbling on boiled peanuts.

During the Christmas season, hundreds of Frazier Fir trees will roll in fresh from the mountains in Northern North Carolina. We sell only the best trees and take great pride in our quality and selection as well as our competitive prices. For the last couple years, we have sold hundreds of gift baskets packed with our jellies, jams, preserves, local honey, sorghum and other goodies we are known for.

Smith’s Nursery and Farmers Market desires to serve the very best product and hope you will give us a try.
